Everything English News — Everything English with John · Last updated: October 8, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the Everything English News mobile app ("the app"), published by Everything English with John ("we", "us"), handles information. The app has been designed to collect as little data as possible.

The short version

Information stored on your device

To remember which stories you have read, which reading level you prefer, your answers to the practice exercises, the stories and words you have saved, and your settings (such as light or dark mode and the optional first name you can type in so the app can greet you), the app saves this information locally on your device using standard on-device storage. The name is optional, is used only on screen, and you can leave it blank or clear it at any time. The app also keeps a copy of recently downloaded stories and audio on your device so they load quickly and can be used offline.

This data stays on your device, is never sent to us or to any server, and is removed when you uninstall the app. We cannot see it.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

If you do not have a subscription, the app shows ads provided by Google AdMob. We request non-personalized ads only. This means the ads you see are chosen based on general information such as the app you are using and your approximate location (country or region), not on a profile of your interests.

To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, Google's software in the app may collect information such as your device's IP address, device type and operating system, approximate location derived from the IP address, ad interactions (such as views and taps), and, on Android devices, the device's advertising ID. On iPhone and iPad, the app does not ask for permission to track you and does not access the advertising identifier (IDFA). Google processes this information under its own policies; see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.

In regions where consent is required (such as the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), the app shows Google's consent form before any ads are loaded. You can review or change your choice at any time with "Ad privacy choices" on the app's More screen. On Android you can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device settings.

Subscribers do not see ads, and the browser version of Everything English News has no ads.

Subscriptions and purchases

Everything English News Premium is an optional auto-renewing subscription, available monthly (with a free trial for new subscribers) or yearly. Payment is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never see or receive your name, email address, or payment details.

To know whether you have an active subscription, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID and your purchase information from Apple or Google (such as the product purchased, purchase and renewal dates, and the store transaction ID). This ID is not linked to your name, email or any account, and it is used only to unlock Premium and to restore your purchases. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.

Managing or canceling your subscription

Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time:

Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies.

How stories and audio are delivered

The stories, definitions, exercises and audio are not all built into the app. They are published by us as a public content library and downloaded by the app, which is how new stories appear without you having to update the app. Those files are hosted on Cloudflare (Cloudflare R2 storage), and story images may be resized for your screen by an image delivery service, wsrv.nl.

These are ordinary requests for public files, and they carry no information about you: no account, no identifier, and no record of what you read. As with opening any web page, the companies providing that hosting may log standard technical details such as the IP address making the request, under their own policies. For details, see the Cloudflare Privacy Policy and the wsrv.nl Privacy Policy.

Notifications

If you turn on reminders, the app schedules them on your own device. No push server is involved, no token is registered, and nothing is sent anywhere. You can turn reminders off at any time in the app or in your device settings.

Links to other websites

Each story lists the news outlets it was based on, and the app also links to sites we operate or partner with (for example our website, our YouTube channel, a lesson-booking page, an italki referral link, and our other apps in the App Store and Google Play). If you tap one, you leave the app and the destination site's own privacy policy applies. We do not pass any information about you to those sites; tapping a link simply opens it in your browser.

News content

Stories are written by us as English learning material, based on reporting from established news organizations, and every story lists its sources so you can read the original coverage. The app is a learning tool, not a news service, and we do not personalize what you see based on your behavior.

Children's privacy

The app is intended for a general audience of English learners aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads in the app are non-personalized and limited to content suitable for teens.

Data sharing and security

We never sell your personal information. The only third parties that receive any data from the app are the service providers described above: Google (ads), RevenueCat (subscription status), Apple or Google (payments), and our content hosts. All network connections made by the app use encrypted HTTPS.

Your choices and data deletion

Everything the app remembers about your reading is stored locally on your device, so you can remove it at any time by using "Clear all data" in the app's settings, by clearing the app's storage in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app. You can change your ad consent choice with "Ad privacy choices" on the More screen. To ask for subscription records held by RevenueCat to be deleted, contact us at the address below. Because the subscription ID is anonymous, it helps to include the date of your purchase and the store you used.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
