This Privacy Policy explains how the Master ED Pronunciation mobile app ("the app"), published by Everything English with John ("we", "us"), handles information. We have designed the app to collect as little data as possible.
To remember your progress, streak, selected language, and preferences (such as light or dark mode), the app saves this information locally on your device using standard on-device storage. This data stays on your device, is never sent to us or to any server, and is removed when you uninstall the app or use "Clear all data" inside the app. We cannot see it.
The free version of the app shows a small banner ad and, occasionally, a full-screen ad after you finish a practice section. Ads are served by Google AdMob, an advertising service provided by Google. We have configured AdMob to show non-personalized ads only. Non-personalized ads are selected based on general information such as the content of the app, your approximate location derived from your IP address, and your device type; they are not based on your interests or on a profile built from your activity in other apps.
To serve and measure ads, Google may receive your device's advertising identifier (a resettable ID provided by iOS or Android), your IP address, and general device information. The app does not ask for permission to track you and does not use Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework, because it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites. On iOS you can reset or limit the advertising identifier in Settings; on Android you can reset or delete it under Google settings. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the app will show a consent message before any ad is requested, as required by law. You can change your choice at any time using "Ad privacy options" in the app's More tab.
You can permanently remove all ads with a single one-time purchase ("Remove Ads"). The purchase is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their own terms and privacy policies. We never receive your name, card number, or any other payment details.
To confirm that a purchase is valid and to restore it if you reinstall the app or change devices, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. RevenueCat receives a randomly generated, anonymous app-user identifier, the purchase receipt issued by Apple or Google, and basic device information (such as platform and app version). This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any account. You can read more in the RevenueCat Privacy Policy. Once the purchase is confirmed, no ads are requested or shown on that device.
The optional "Speak It" practice lets you say a verb out loud and checks your pronunciation. If you choose to use it, the app asks for permission to use your microphone and your device's speech-recognition service. Your speech is processed by your device's built-in speech recognition: Apple's on iPhone and iPad, and Google's on Android. Depending on your device settings, the audio may be processed on Apple's or Google's servers under Apple's Privacy Policy or the Google Privacy Policy. The app itself only receives the recognized text of the verb you said, uses it to show you a result, and immediately discards it. We never record, store, or transmit your voice, and no audio or transcript is ever sent to us. The microphone is used only while the exercise is active, and you can revoke the permission at any time in your device settings; every other part of the app works without it.
If you turn on the optional daily study reminder, the app schedules a local notification on your device at the time you choose. The reminder is created and delivered entirely on your device; no notification data is sent to us or to any server. You can turn it off at any time in the app's More tab or in your device's notification settings.
To understand how the app is used and to make it better, we use Google Analytics for Firebase, a service provided by Google. It collects anonymous usage data, for example, which screens you open, which practice activities and features you use, your selected app language, and general device information such as device model and operating-system version. Google also derives an approximate (city-level) location from your IP address.
This information is associated only with a randomly generated app-instance identifier. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account, and it is not used to track you across other apps or websites. We use it solely to see which parts of the app are useful and where we can improve. You can read more in the Firebase Privacy and Security overview and the Google Privacy Policy.
The app may ask for a first name so it can greet you. This name is optional, is stored only on your device, and is never sent anywhere. You can change or remove it at any time in the app's settings.
The app contains links to external websites and apps we operate or partner with (for example our YouTube channel, our website, a lesson-booking page, an italki referral link, and our other apps on the App Store and Google Play). If you tap one, you leave the app and the destination's own privacy policy applies. We do not pass your personal information to those sites; tapping a link simply opens it.
The app is intended for a general audience of English learners aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Ads in the app are non-personalized for everyone.
We share data only with the service providers described above (Google AdMob for advertising, Google Analytics for Firebase for anonymous analytics, and Apple, Google, and RevenueCat for the Remove Ads purchase), and only for the purposes described. We do not collect personal data ourselves, and we never sell your data. All network connections made by the app use encrypted HTTPS.
Because your learning data is stored locally on your device, you can remove it at any time using "Clear all data" in the app's More tab, by clearing the app's storage in your device settings, or by uninstalling the app. There is no account to delete and no personal data held by us. Purchase records are kept by Apple or Google as part of your store account; the anonymous identifier used by RevenueCat can be deleted on request by contacting us at the address below.
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
